NRC used the opportunity to present to the monitoring CESCR specific information and issues concerning Covenants rights implementation in Macedonia, with particular attention to the Roma community

NRC delegation was in working visit to the United Nations Office at Geneva participating at the 56th session of the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) concerning Macedonia during the pre-session working group held on 12-16 October 2015 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. NRC used the opportunity to present to the monitoring CESCR specific information and issues concerning Covenants rights implementation in Macedonia, with particular attention to the Roma community.  The Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) is a body of 18 independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights ratified by Macedonia. The Committee monitors and examines the realization of the rights to work and just and favorable conditions of work, the right to adequate standard of living, the right to highest attainable standard of health, the right to education, social protection and cultural rights deriving from the inherent dignity of the human being and addresses its concerns and recommendations for the country.

Furthermore NRC held working meeting with staff from the Secretariat of the Forum on Minority Issues at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and with staff officer of the UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues and staff officer of the UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing for information sharing and exchange of human rights protection concerning housing and rights of Roma minority in Macedonia.
