On June 06 – 08 the National Roma Centrum visited Veliko Trnovo, Bulgaria where the Roma children festival “Open Heart” was held for the eleventh time. The event was organised by the Centre for interethnic dialogue and tolerance “Amalipe” from Veliko Trnovo, Bulgaria. The festival was attended by more than 1800 children from more than 100 schools and dance groups and guests from Spain, Hungary, Romania, Greece and Macedonia. Macedonia was represented by the primary school “Braka Miladinovci” from Miladinovci, municipality Ilinden, with a mix of Roma songs with choreography by the music teacher Jovche Petkovski.
Besides the musical and dancing presentations of the schools and the dance groups, there were creative exhibitions of children’s drawings; traditional Roma craft works from Bulgaria; traditional Roma meals which were prepared at the festival, etc. All participants received information and tickets for the museum of wax figures and other monuments. The event “Sound and light” was also traditionally organised.
