Julija Sardelic is working on a CITSEE research project (www.citsee.eu), which deals with the transformation of citizenship regimes in post-Yugoslav states. Her task within CITSEE is to research the position of Romani minorities with regards to transformation of post-Yugoslav citizenship regimes and the questions of statelessness as well as the rights of Roma.
She contacted NRC and asked for our participation in the research considering the contribution of our organization in the improvement of the position of the Roma.
On this meeting we talked about the current questions considering the Roma population which lives in Macedonia and in the Balkans. We discussed the problems that many of the Roma have with the lack of personal documentation, and we made a retrospective of the situation of the Roma in this region from 50 years ago. The results of this discussion will be a part of the CITSEE research project about the current situation of the Roma population in the Balkans and in Macedonia.
Mr. Asmet Elezovski, the president of the National Roma Centrum thinks that these discussions are necessary because they contribute for better analyses and a future planning in order to solve the worsened situation of the Roma.
