After an entire year of the application for free legal assistance with support from the Open Society Foundation – Macedonia (OSFM) the first association National Roma Centrum – Kumanovo (NRC – Kumanovo) has registered in the Registry of associations of citizens for previous legal assistance, which is being led by the Republic of Macedonia’s Ministry of justice. This enables the citizens to use NRC’s capacities to and to receive (a) initial legal advice for the right of using legal assistance, (b) general legal information and (c) legal assistance in completing of requests for free legal assistance.
The support from OSFM is part of the subprogram “Support of human rights” which includes the Macedonian associations of young lawyers, Youth Cultural Center – Bitola and ROMA S.O.S. – Prilep. The purpose of the cooperation is to ease and support the establishment of the system of free legal assistance in Republic of Macedonia. The cooperation is established from one side to support association to register in the Registry of association of citizens for previous legal assistance and on the other hand to assist the citizens in achieving of free legal assistance.
With its activities, the associations will identify weaknesses and obstacles in implementation of the Law on free legal assistance and will provide recommendations for more efficient system in which the citizens would have an opportunity to completely realize the right of equal approach to justice.
