The goal of this meeting was to exchange information about the needs of the project “Best practices for Roma integration” which is being implemented by OBSE
A meeting took place in the National Roma Centrum with Aleksandar Lazovski, a representative from OBSE who is included in the project “Best practices for Roma integration”, Paul Rabbe and Alonso Ayla, consultants on a regional level from the Netherlands who are included in the same project. Representatives from NRC on the meeting were Asmet Elezovski – NRC manager, Katerina Sojic – a lawyer and Slavica Tasevska-Simonovic – assistant in the Rescource Center in the project “Legalization of the housing of Roma”.
The aim of this meeting was the exchanging of information for the needs of the project “Best practices for Roma integration” which is being implemented by OBSE. Paul Rabbe and Alonso Ayla are engaged as consultants in the making of a regional report for the housing which will include issues for social housing of the Roma, as well as legalization of the Roma neighborhoods. The project will include an overview of the status of the housing of Roma in the Western Balkans and will consider the best practices and disadvantages in every one of the countries, on the local and central level.
Mr. Asmet Elezovski presented the program activities of NRC and the local and national politics related with the Roma.
Katerina Sojic presented in detail all of the legal aspects and challenges associated with the implementation of the project activities of “Legalization of the housing of Roma” which is being realized by the NRC as well as the Law for legalization of illegally built objects in the Republic of Macedonia.
After the meeting was finished, the OBSE team, together with the volunteers of NRC, went on the field and toured the Roma neighborhoods: Sredorek, Baraki and Bavci, so that they could acquire a realistic image and perception of the Roma communities in Kumanovo.
