In Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, the 12th International Children’s festival “Open heart” was held, where NRC participated in partnership with the P.S. “Braka Miladinovci” from Miladinovci, municipality Ilinden

The center for interethnic dialogue and tolerance “Amalipe” from Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria on the 05-06th June organized the the 12th International Children’s festival “Open heart”, where NRC participated in partnership with the P.S. “Braka Miladinovci” from Miladinovci, municipality Ilinden for the third time.

The Roma children festival began with a walk of the participants on the street of Veliko Trnovo, with banners and flags dressed in the gowns from their performances. Other present on the walk were Mrs. Margarita Popova, vice-president of Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rajes Kumar Sachdeva, ambassador of India in Bulgaria, Mrs. Emma Kate Hopkins, ambassador of the USA, Mrs. Eva Zehecheva, president of the State agency for protection of children, prof. Pencho Penchev, county governer, representatives from the Ministry of education and science and Ministry of health, Mr. Daniel Panov, mayor of Veliko Trnovo, Ms. Karina Fortuni from the TSA (trust for social achievement) and many other representatives from state institutions joined at the manifestation under the motto “Together we can do better!”.

On the 6th June at 9 o’clock at the Marno Pole park, the festival began with its official program where there were 130 schools and over 1800 participants from all part of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Greece. The participants presented various choreographies of traditional dancing, modern dancing, dramatization of stories and solo singing.

The primary school “Braka Miladinovci” were in the program in the afternoon hours where the program was enriched with performance of Roma folk dancing and songs from Macedonia and were dressed in traditional Roma wardrobe.

Besides the music and stage performances, stands were also placed at the Marno Pole park that symbolically presented the tradition, culture and folklore of Bulgarian, Turk and Roma ethnicities that live together in R. Bulgaria.
