The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information on the situation of human rights in Macedonia, with a special emphasis on the protection of the rights of the members of the Roma community

 

A representative of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe Erica Schlager, as a member of the Counsel for International Law in this independent agency of the United States, along with Foreign Service officer at the U.S. State Department, David Meyer, and the political counselor at the U.S. Embassy, Mitko Burchevski, visited the NRC on June 3, 2014.

The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information on the situation of human rights in the Republic of Macedonia, with special emphasis on the protection of the rights of members of the Roma community. The Executive Director of NRC, Asmet Elezovski, informed the guests about the situation with the respect for fundamental human rights and generally about the problems faced by Roma in Macedonia. At the meeting it was discussed about access to education, health care, employment, housing and ongoing projects of the NRC.
