The activity is being realized within the frameworks of the project Legalization of housing for Roma, which has been realized by the NRC with financial support from Open Society Foundation Macedonia, in partnership with Habitat Macedonia.

Starting from August 2012, NRC began with legal advice and evaluation of circumstances for the procedures. This activity is being realized directly on the field with personal meetings between a lawyer, representative from the Resource centre responsible for the target group, field facilitator and a group of 15-20 direct beneficiaries of the project.

The first meeting was held in Kocani on the 14.08.2012 with 18 direct beneficiaries who received legal assistance and directions for completing of the necessary documentation for legalizatio of their homes. The meeting also caused interest with the local media http://kanal8.mk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=40

In Tetovo a meeting was held with 23 beneficiaries, on the 31.08.2012. The largest problem in Tetovo is tha the persons on the property documentation are listed as users and not owners. Each case was reviewed individually.

On the 14.09.2012 a meeting was held in Prilep wth 29 beneficiaries. All of them were provided with administrative-legal assistance. Each case was advised what documents would they require for further procedure for legalization.

On the 05.09.2012 a meeting was held with 20 beneficiaries in Kumanovo. There were cases from Sredorek with geodesic elaborates and required information whether it could be used for legalization and were waiting from a decision from the municipality. Also they wanted to know whether several objects can be legalized with one request.

The aim of the project is to increase the percentage of legalized homes in Republic of Macedonia, with emphasis of Roma homes in 6 municipalities in RM: Skopje, Kumnovo, Kocani, Prilep, Tetovo and Stip, where the largest number of Roma population lives, through legal, administrative, financial and technical support for the process
