Donor: European Commission

Duration of the project: 01/10/2011 – 30/09/2013

Description: The project is directed towards development, testing and evaluating the socially original approach to the fight against social inclusion of young people in rural communities in Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia, with a particular attention on the young people from marginalized Roma communities. The project supposes that the reasons for social exclusion are not only poverty and the lack of democratic traditions, but also the lack of social structures in the local communities. The project promotes the development of Centers for support in the community and other original forms of social services in the marginalized rural Roma communities. In the frames of the project, the Centers for support in the communities will be established and methodologically supported: four in Bulgaria, one in Romania and one in Macedonia.

Aim of the project:

The general goal of the project is a fight against social exclusion of young people from marginalized rural Roma communities in Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia through the development and testing the original social services in the communities.

The project has three specific goals:

– Establishing and testing the Centers for support in the communities as a frame for original social services in the communities for social inclusion of young people from the Roma rural communities;

measuring the effect of the active participation and overcoming of the social exclusion in the rural communities in the established Centers for support in the communities;

providing sustainability and a wider application of the module established on a national level (in Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia) and on a European level.
