The National Roma Centrum (NRC) with the support of UN Women began with the implementation of a project titled “Supporting Roma women to identify their needs, seek their rights and increase their access to services for those who survived violence” in the period from August 2018 to December 2019. The project will be implemented in the following municipalities: Kicevo, Kumanovo, Veles, Shtip, Kocani, Prilep.
The aim of the project is to reduce discrimination and violence against Roma women and girls in Macedonia. The specific goal of the project is to provide access and provision of services for Roma women and girls faced with discrimination and / or violence against women, effective communication between civil society and relevant institutions, and advocating for available accessible and quality services and gender equality.
In the framework of the project NRC will implement a series of project activities:
- free legal assistance in the form of legal advice for women and, if necessary, will be represented by a lawyer;
- mapping of all services at the local level to protect women of all kinds of violence and directing them to seek protection, organizing trainings for gender equality in all cities, executive summary to change public policies to support women victims of violence;
- organizing a BUVERO Camp for young girls through training and video creation to tell stories in order to
raise public awareness.
The project is part of UN Women‘s Regional Program “Preventing Violence against Women in the Western Balkans and Turkey: “Implementing Norms, Changing Minds”, funded by the European Union.
