The National Roma Centrum will promote successful sportsmen among young Roma

Kumanovo, April 18, 2018 (MIA) – The National Roma Centrum Kumanovo in the next period will undertake more activities and will organize open sessions and debates in order to motivate young Roma to get involved in sports clubs, with the aim of easier integration in the society, the authorities of the organization have informed today.
CEO of NRC, Mr. Ashmet Elezovski, announced that his organization will educate young Roma about the importance of sport and the role it has for the personal development of young people, but also for the integration of the Roma ethnic community in the society.
The integration of Roma should take place through sports, to motivate young people to choose sports, rather than vices, and to give opportunity to Roma sportsmen to show their talent. These are the conclusions from the round table on Roma integration through sport, where NRC also took part among other 60 civil organizations from Europe, and it was organized by the FARE network in Bucharest on the occasion of the International Roma Day, said Chief Executive Officer of NRC, Mr. Ashmet Elezovski.
At the round table, it was emphasized that in Macedonia there are positive examples of Roma athletes who should serve as an example and encourage young people to be part of local, national and international events in sport, said Elezovski and pointed out the example with the prominent Olympian, Mr. Redzep Redzepovski.
– A group was formed for this purpose and I hope that their actions will contribute to encouraging the participation of Roma in sports, and thus helping young people to choose healthy life rather than vices, said Elezovski.
There were representatives from the International Football Federation FIFA at the meeting and they announced that the organization will support sports activities and events in the future. Otherwise, NRC is a partner of the FARE network, which fights against discrimination, racism and intolerance in sports.
Elezovski also referred to the European Commission report on Macedonia, evaluating it as a positive signal, stressing that the recommendation is especially important for all citizens of Macedonia, including the Roma community.
– We believe that the present moment and this year particularly are crucial for the citizens and the future that should be created through positive dialogue for better and quality life for all, said Elezovski.
